Sobre Saber Agradecer

A Academia Sergipana de Letras, desde sua fundação em 1929, tem sido um símbolo na luta emancipatória. Seus fundadores compreenderam que a literatura e as artes elevam as ações do seres humanos à um novo patamar civilizatório e lutaram, arduamente, para a consolidação de sua presença em nossa sociedade. Entenderam que, sem elas, a vida se torna cinza e o desenvolvimento humano e social é lento e fragmentado. Buscaram fazer da Academia uma nobre referência para que tivéssemos a oportunidade de viver em um mundo melhor, em que as diferenças, as conquistas impensadas, as lutas energizadas pelo ódio, dessem lugar a um novo sentimento, criado e permeado pelo entendimento de que as artes e a literatura facilitam nossa própria compreensão dos múltiplos desafios que possuímos em vida e dão cores a nossa existência. Com este mesmo espírito emancipador e fraterno, seus distintos sucessores criaram o Movimento de Apoio Cultural, carinhosamente chamado de MAC. O MAC foi criado pelo então presidente Dr. Antônio Garcia Filho com o objetivo de subsidiar a Academia em suas diversas atividades culturais. Sua missão tem sido parte integrante da vida da Academia, que sabiamente tem escolhido seus integrantes entre aqueles que buscam contribuir para os ideais estabelecidos desde sua fundação. Estes vem a se somar aos Acadêmicos no trabalho de difusão do pensamento artístico, literário e intelectual, amplamente necessário para fazermos avançar nossa sociedade. 

Todavia, devo-lhes confessar que não é fácil ser escritor. É preciso muita determinação e, especialmente, coragem, para colocar ideias no papel. São milhares de horas pensando, selecionando observações e memórias, para, por fim, escrever e dar forma à aquilo que se pensa. Fazer chegar ao grande público estas ideias é um ato de desapego e, novamente, de coragem. É preciso ter total desprendimento em relação ao julgamento alheio. Nós, escritores, só não sofremos neste processo quanto sabemos que nossas ideias representam uma contribuição para o desenvolvimento de nossa sociedade. Há uma passagem do livro “O Pequeno Príncipe” em que Antoine de Saint-Exupéry escreve uma bela representação deste sentimento, que acredito ser a maturidade necessária ao ofício de ser escritor. Ele diz e cito “Todas as pessoas grandes foram um dia crianças. (Mas poucas se lembram disso)”. Acredito que nós, escritores, jamais esquecemos, em nosso fazer artístico, a criança que vive dentro de nós. Muitas vezes, vemos o mundo através de seus olhos. Percebemos formas e cores que os adultos, que esqueceram suas crianças em seu passado, perdidas em seu eu interior quando passaram a se preocupar com seus cotidianos acinzentados, não conseguem mais enxergar. Não pensem que somos ingênuos! A escrita exige de nós uma capacidade criativa para além da repetição contínua do cotidiano. Ao preservar a importância de escritores, a Academia Sergipana de Letras traz para o centro do palco os atores que pensam e imaginam uma sociedade melhor. É a noção plena de que de idealismo ninguém morre!

Sob a liderança do seu Presidente, Prof. José Anderson Nascimento, a Academia Sergipana de Letras tem atuado amplamente de forma republicana e democrática, preservando o espírito de liberdade e fraternidade lançado por seus fundadores há 90 anos atrás. Este mesmo espírito se faz presente no trabalho dos demais Acadêmicos e Confrades, seja no mundo das artes, ou em suas atuações profissionais em diversas Instituições de Ensino, Organizações, Instituições Médicas, Tribunais, no Legislativo e no Executivo. Acredito ser esta uma das marcas maiores da excelência desta casa. Me sinto profundamente honrado de ter sido escolhido e eleito para ingressar em tão distinta casa. Na última segunda-feira, passei a ocupar, humildemente, a cadeira 32 do MAC desta Academia, que tem como patrono Dr. Carvalho Neto, intelectual sergipano com inúmeros serviços prestados a educação brasileira e que lutou pelo avanço de suas pautas no legislativo. Tomei posse em companhia de quatro confrades, que possuem como patronos pessoas com amplas contribuições para a sociedade sergipana. São eles o escritor Antônio Camilo, o historiador Adailton Andrade, o editor Joselito Miranda e músico Edson Nascimento. Seus patronos, respectivamente, são Dom Luciano José Cabral Duarte, Hermes Fontes, Abelardo Romero Dantas e Clodomir Silva. Ao tomar posse, assumimos o compromisso de preservar a memória de nossos patronos e, também, de todos os nossos ancestrais que trabalharam arduamente para que vivêssemos em um mundo melhor, diverso em oportunidades. Preservar a memória requer de nós a capacidade de reconhecermos a importância, a contribuição e o valor dos nossos pares para o nosso desenvolvimento. Este princípio democrático se inspira na noção de que todos nós somos importantes e capazes de agirmos ativamente para a construção de um mundo melhor. Para tanto, é preciso resgatar ideias e boas práticas para que, de forma pujante, possamos lançar novas pedras fundamentais para a construção de nosso futuro. 

Para a cerimônia de posse, fui escolhido orador e designado para falar em nome dos empossados. Resolvi fazer um discurso na forma de um agradecimento. Saber agradecer é, por princípio, saber apresentar uma resposta positiva à altura da dignidade dos atos daqueles que nos dignificam. Assim, gostaria de agradecer a você leitor e a todos que contribuíram para que chegasse até este ponto de minha história, especialmente aos meus familiares que sempre lutaram para que eu tivesse uma educação digna e de qualidade. Em especial, agradeço também a todos os colegas do JORNAL DA CIDADE, e a todos os meus estudantes e colegas professores da UNINASSAU, que me acolheram em um dos momentos mais difíceis de minha vida. About knowing how to be Thankful

The Sergipe Academy of Letters, since its foundation in 1929, has been a symbol in the emancipatory struggle of our society. Its founders understood that literature and the arts elevate the actions of human beings to a new civilizational level and fought hard to consolidate their presence in our society. They understood that without them life becomes gray and human and social development is slow and fragmented. They sought to make the Academy a noble reference for us to have the opportunity to live in a better world, where differences, unthinking achievements, hate-fueled struggles gave way to a new feeling, created and permeated by the understanding that the arts and literature facilitate our understanding of the manifold challenges we have in life and color our existence. With this same emancipating and brotherly spirit, their distinguished successors created the Culturally Supporting Movement, affectionately called the MAC. The MAC was created by then-president Dr. Antonio Garcia Filho to subsidize the Academy in its various cultural activities. Its mission has been an integral part of the life of the Academy, which has wisely chosen its members from those who seek to contribute to the ideals established since its foundation. These are added to the Academics in the work of spreading the artistic, literary and intellectual thought, widely needed to advance our society.

However, I must confess that it is not easy to be a writer. It takes a lot of determination and especially courage to put ideas on paper. It's thousands of hours of thinking, selecting observations and memories, to finally write and shape what you think. Bringing these ideas to the general public is an act of detachment and, again, courage. There must be total detachment from the judgment of others. We writers just do not suffer in this process when we know that our ideas contribute to the development of our society. There is a passage from the book “The Little Prince” in which Antoine de Saint-Exupéry writes a beautiful representation of this feeling, which I believe is the maturity necessary for the craft of being a writer. He says and I quote, “All great people were once children. (But few remember this)”. I believe that we writers have never forgotten in our artistic work the child who lives within us. Many times we see the world through their eyes. We see shapes and colors that adults who have forgotten their children in their past, lost in their inner self as they began to worry about their grayish daily lives, can no longer see. Do not think we are naive! Writing demands from us a creative capacity beyond the continuous repetition of daily life. While preserving the importance of writers, the Sergipe Academy of Letters brings to the center of the stage the actors who think and imagine a better society. It is the full notion that from idealism no one dies!

Under the leadership of its President, Prof. José Anderson Nascimento, the Sergipe Academy of Letters has acted widely in a republican and democratic way, preserving the spirit of freedom and brotherhood launched by its founders 90 years ago. This same spirit is present in the work of other Academics and Confreres, whether in the world of the arts or their professional activities in various educational institutions, organizations, medical institutions, courthouses, the legislature, and the executive branch. I believe this is one of the biggest marks of excellence in this house. I am deeply honored to have been chosen and elected to enter such a distinguished house. Last Monday, I began to humbly occupy the 32nd seat of the MAC of this Academy, whose patron is Dr. Carvalho Neto, an intellectual with numerous services provided to Brazilian education and who fought for the advancement of its agenda on the legislative. I was endowed in the company of four confreres, whose patrons are people with broad contributions to our society. They are the writer Antônio Camilo, the historian Adailton Andrade, the editor Joselito Miranda and musician Edson Nascimento. Their patrons, respectively, are Dom Luciano Jose Cabral Duarte, Hermes Fontes, Abelardo Romero Dantas, and Clodomir Silva. By being endowed, we are committed to preserving the memory of our patrons, as well as all our ancestors who worked hard so we could live in a better world, diverse in opportunity. Preserving memory requires us to be able to recognize the importance, contribution and value of our peers for our development. This democratic principle is inspired by the notion that we are all important and able to act actively to build a better world. To do so, we need to rescue ideas and good practices so that we can powerfully lay new foundation stones for the construction of our future.

For the inauguration ceremony, I was chosen orator and assigned to speak on behalf of the inducted. I decided to make a speech in the form of a thank you note. Knowing how to thank is, by principle, knowing how to present a positive response to the dignity of the acts of those who dignify us. So I would like to thank you, the reader, and everyone who has contributed to this point in my history, especially my family members who have always struggled for a decent and quality education. In particular, I also thank all my colleagues from JORNAL DA CIDADE, and all my UNINASSAU students and fellow professors, who welcomed me at one of the most difficult times of my life. Thank you very much!
